The Port of Oldenburg is located at the intersection of the Hunte sea waterway and the coast canal inland waterway.

Accessibility

The port is easily reached from the A 28 and A 29 motorways (exit Oldenburg Hafen). The port is also connected by its own sidings to the rail system of the federal railway operator, Deutsche Bahn AG.

Port Throughput

With an average annual cargo handling volume of 1.2 million tonnes, the Port of Oldenburg is one of the busiest inland ports in Lower Saxony. The main goods handled at the port are agricultural products such as grain, fodder and fertiliser. The share of this goods category is 46 percent. The share of construction materials (sand, gravel, natural stone and grit) is approx. 36 percent of the overall goods handled.

Shipping

In 2009 a total of 1,041 inland water vessels and 104 seagoing vessels docked at the Port of Oldenburg, which is also a transit station for inland water vessels running between the Rhine-Ruhr waterway and the Weser-Ems waterway. Every year approximately 5,200 ships carrying around 2 million tonnes of cargo pass through the Oldenburg lock in both directions.

  • Total wharf length: 1,900 m for cargo handling plus 300 m as mooring area
  • Water depth: approx.  3.2 m; approx. 5.6 m at the mean high tide

  • Cranes: 7, one of which is a 35 t crane
  • Loading bridges: 4
  • Handling connections for oil products: 1
  • Mobile cranes 15 - 50 t.: 5    over 50 t.: 6
  • Heavy cargo handling of unit weights of up to 750 t is possible in the eastern port

Storage Facilities

  • Open areas: 19.8 hectares
  • Covered storage areas: 1.85 hectares.
  • Silos/bunkers: 92,700 t.
  • Tank halls: 6,000 cbm
