The Oldenburg Culture Summer invites residents and guests to a three-week programme of jazz, rock, pop, folklore and classical music as well as pantomime and other visual and performing arts. Classical concerts, open air cinema and street theatre -  the events staged during the Culture Summer are often held outdoors and are free of charge. (Three weeks at the end of July / beginning of August)

KIBUM is the largest non-commercial convention for children and young reader’s books in Germany. An estimated 35,000 small and tall visitors alike attend the KIBUM every year.

This widely anticipated convention includes a variety of KIBUM related events; such as author readings, theatre plays, story times, and speeches. In addition to these exciting activities, the Carl von Ossietzky Research Centre for Children and Young People’s Literature will hold an accompanying exposition. To top it all off, a well endowed prize for the best children’s book by a new author and/or illustrator – the “Oldenburger Children’s Literature Prize” – is awarded during the course of the KIBUM. The International Film Festival, held every year in September, also focuses on international independent films.
