Exploring Oldenburg and its Surroundings by Bike

Oldenburg is renowned as a cycle-friendly city and bicycles are one of the most popular means of transport. An extensive network of cycle tracks enables you to reach all the different areas of the city quickly and easily, and cycling through the beautiful countryside and into the lively town centre is part of that very special "Oldenburg feeling".

There are two cycle parking stations at the Oldenburg main train station where you can park your bikes securely for a small charge. A cycle hire shop and lockers are also available from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the week. For further information on prices and services please visit www.fahrradstation-oldenburg.de

There are also a number of signposted cycle trails which invite practiced and not-so-practiced cyclists to explore Oldenburg and its surroundings:

Route around Oldenburg

Yellow signs with a red circle mark the 100 km route around Oldenburg, and red signs with a yellow circle indicate seven so-called "spokes" which take cyclists into the city centre. Cyclists can then enjoy exploring the city of Oldenburg and its neighbours in the Wesermarsch, Ammerland and the Wildeshauser Geest regions. Meerweg

For a maritime flair and sightseeing highlights along the way take the Meerweg long-distance cycle trail. This 300 km long route connects the three largest lakes in Lower Saxony, the Steinhuder Meer, the Dümmer See and the Zwischenahner Meer, with the North Sea coast. The starting point is Neustadt am Rübenberge. This stage takes you from Oldenburg to Wilhelmshaven. For more information please read more »

Friesischer Heerweg

The Friesische Heerweg is 400 km long and therefore the longest signposted cycle trail in East Frisia. Why not try the stage from Oldenburg to Esens through Hesel and Aurich? Here you can find more information about the Friesischer Heerweg »
