Information for International Students
Students and scientists from other nations will find excellent conditions for studying and research in Oldenburg. Oldenburg is home to outstanding scientific institutions and the research and business communities are very closely interlinked. Various international courses of study and cross-border university cooperation programmes are an important element of academic life. Last but not least visitors to Oldenburg will enjoy the open atmosphere in a modern but still homely city with its endearing traditions.
Registration and Foreign Resident Laws
International students must register within one week of their arrival in Oldenburg at the Citizens' Office, the Bürgerbüro. Students from within the European Union, the EEA states (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) as well as Switzerland do not require a visa. Students from other countries (third or non-member countries) must apply for a visa at the German consulate in their own country before they come to Germany. Students from non-member countries and Swiss citizens also require a residence permit which is issued at the Foreign Residents' Office, the Ausländerbüro of the City of Oldenburg.
